Fort Myers Ving Tsun Academy
Welcome to the Fort Myers Ving Tsun ” academy where we teach the art of Authentic Ving Tsun Kung Fu. The Fort Myers Ving Tsun / Wing Chun academy is appointed as an Official Charter School under the World Ving Tsun Athletic Association www.wvtaa.org and is headed up by Eric Hall who serves as the academy’s Head Instructor. Note: Ving Tsun is how Wing Chun is spelled in China. Sorry for any confusion between the two spellings.
Unlike a lot of other Wing Chun schools out there, we teach the art EXACTLY as it was taught by the late Grandmaster Ip Man, so our students are confident knowing that they are learning “Authentic Ving Tsun” rather than a watered down version of it. Our classes are intentionally kept small to ensure that each and every student progresses as quickly as they are able to while making sure that they receive the attention that they need in order to learn as quickly as possible. A students progress is based solely on their ability to assimilate the various lessons and drills into the body and once the student has sufficiently absorbed a particular subject, the next subject is then introduced. This means that if a student truly dedicates him or herself to the training, he/she will progress more rapidly. As Sifu Darrell says “if the student is ready to move on then it shall be so”.This is the way Ving Tsun should be taught.
At the academy we stress endurance training with two man drills. In the first three months of the students training a lot of time is focused on striking ability and includes the fists, feet, elbows, and knees. We also teach wooden dummy drills AKA “Muk Yan Jong Drills” early on in the training to enhance the students fighting skills, and to harden the arms in preparation for Combat drills that follow. When the student reaches the Chi sao (sticking hands) level, it then becomes the main focus for the student, as this is the nucleus of the Wing Chun / Ving Tsun system. Chi Sao training is not only done standing on the floor, but on a platform (3′x5′), floating platforms and while sitting on stools. These different training methods of Chi Sao develop certain attributes that are very important to the overall ability of the student. Our training is designed to give you the skills needed to correctly progress through the system and to train your body in a way that “Your hands and feet develop a mind of their own.”
The Ving Tsun / Wing Chun System consists of the following forms;
Siu Nim Tao (Little Idea)
Chum Kiu (Searching the Bridge)
Biu Gee (Shooting or Darting Fingers).
Muk Yan Jong (Wooden Dummy)
Luk Dim Boon Gwan (Six and a half point pole)
Baat Jaam Do (Eight slashing knife form)
